About The College

Araria College: A Beacon of Education and Cultural Legacy

The greater the ethnic and cultural heritage of a nation or country, the more glorious it becomes. Similarly, the stronger the cultural and creative foundation of a university, the more immortal its reputation. Institutions like Nalanda University and Patna University stand as shining examples of this truth, continuing to inspire the world of education even today.

At the heart of every great university is its college - its foundation. The backbone of any college lies in its educators and the systems that support them. The soul of an educator is their brilliance in teaching, and the guiding force behind this brilliance is the Guru, who nurtures not only knowledge but also the values that shape a better future.

A vibrant future is shaped by the social, political, and cultural dignity of the Guru. In the case of Araria Mahavidyalaya, this vision has been realized since its establishment on July 3, 1973, under the able leadership of intellectuals, social workers, politicians, and administrative officers.

The Role of Araria College in Education and Society

Since its inception, the college has played an essential role in the social, cultural, and educational upliftment of the region. The need for an institution of higher learning was keenly felt, as students had to travel far for education. This was especially challenging for brilliant students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Women, in particular, suffered the most, as the absence of a local college deprived them of educational opportunities.

Araria College, by providing access to higher education in this backward and economically challenged region, lit the lamp of knowledge and opportunity. Originally a constituent unit of Lalit Narayan Mithila University and Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, it is now part of Purnea University, continuing to spread the light of education far and wide.

A Progressive Institution Committed to Social Unity

Today, Araria College stands as a progressive, developing institution committed to social and national pride. The college's co-education system is a significant symbol of progress in a traditionally backward area, reflecting the spirit of inclusion and equality.

The warm and familial environment at Araria College fosters not only academic excellence but also a sense of unity among students and staff. This harmonious blend of diligence, humility, and mutual respect has made the college a symbol of national unity and pride.

Academic Excellence and Student Achievements

Diligence, modesty, culture, perseverance, and dedication to studies are the hallmarks of Araria College's students. Their achievements have been visible across various fields such as administration, arts, literature, music, medicine, engineering, and more. Activities like N.S.S. and sports have been integral in energizing the college community, further fostering the development of the students.

Students are the greatest asset of this institution, and their talents have always shone brightly. Last year, the students of the college once again excelled in various sports competitions, reinforcing the college’s legacy of achievement.

In all three faculties — Arts, Science, and Commerce — postgraduate subjects are also taught, enhancing the academic prestige of the institution. Notably, in the Arts Faculty, the introduction of Geography, Sociology, and Home Science marked a pioneering achievement for the Koshi region.

The Visionary Foundation of Araria College

The reputation of Araria College has been strengthened due to the unwavering dedication, cooperation, and discipline of both its teachers and non-teaching staff. However, the establishment of this institution wasn’t an easy feat. Before 1973, two previous attempts to establish a college in the region had failed.

In 1973, a committee formed under the leadership of Hon. Haleem Uddin, known as the "Gandhi of Araria," along with Late Shri Ramtavakya Sharma, the then Founder President and Sub-Divisional Officer, and Dr. Ganga Nath Jha, the Founder Principal, ensured that the resolution to establish the college remained unbroken.

Despite facing resistance and obstacles, the great leaders persevered. Initial arrangements for studies were made in the morning shift at the premises of Araria High School. The 1973-75 session of the college began with just seven students and seven teachers. The founding faculty included Dr. Ganga Nath Jha (Principal), Dr. Surendra Kumar Singh, Mohd. Irfan, Afzal Hussain Siddiqui, Vishwanath Jha, Shashi Kant Jha, Chandranand, Shams Jamal, and Anant Mohan Jha.

Soon after, Bhupeshwar Narayan Verma, Haseeb Uddin, Udit Kumar Verma, Kamal Narayan Yadav, and Naval Kishore Singh joined as professors. The administrative team also grew with Gopal Prasad serving as clerk and Ram Narayan Prasad as a fourth-class employee.
